Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Physical and Rehabilitation medicine: possibilities in the assessment of selected morphological changes of upper limb
Giannelli, Karolína ; Mezian, Kamal (advisor) ; Hrazdíra, Luboš (referee) ; Nedělka, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of ultrasound diagnostics and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures in selected pathological changes of the upper limb. Ultrasound examination directly in specialists' offices, including rehabilitation physicians, has been a worldwide trend in the last two decades. The main advantages include the possibility of assessing the pathological findings directly related to the clinical examination. The benefit is speeding up the establishment of an accurate diagnosis and initiating adequate treatment. Indirectly, the costs associated with examination by other imaging techniques and therapy are reduced. This thesis aims to present diagnostic and therapeutic options for selected morphological changes in the upper limb, including less common pathologies, such as case reports of intramuscular haemangiomas, whose diagnosis was significantly contributed by ultrasound examination. In addition to diagnosis, ultrasound is used to navigate interventions, increasing the safety and effectiveness of these procedures. The research part of this thesis is focused on identifying the optimal site of median nerve injection in carpal tunnel syndrome. This study is a prospective, randomized, blinded study with 46 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. We compared the effect of two...

THESIS ABSTRACT Name, surname: Bc. Pavlína Kořánová Supervisor: MUDr. Ivan Humhej, PhD. Labor consultant: Bc. Olga Nováková, M. Sc. Thesis title: Occupational therapy treatment strategies in patients with upper limb peripheral nerve injury Thesis abstract: Peripheral nerve injuries of upper limb are often identified by sensory and motor control deficit. Limitations are most likely evident in their performance of activities of daily living (ADL), leisure and work activities. Significant neurogenic pain is a typically included and can cause poor quality of life. The result of injury is not only affecting the physical area, but also psychological and socio- economic aspects. Treatment is often time-consuming and there is an uncertain prognosis. The overview of the issue summarizes basic information, identification of specific peripheral nerve of upper limb (radial, median, ulnar) and their functional deficits. It also presents actual options of treatment, specially with an emphasis on occupational therapy. The purpose of this final thesis is to extend the knowledge and treatment options of evidence-based occupational therapy. The outputs represent an overview of occupational therapy treatment strategies in patients with upper limb peripheral nerve injury. Among the common effective occupational therapy's...
Case Study of the Physiotherapy Treatment of a Patient after polytrauma with peripheral palsy of ulnar nerve
Bryanová, Karolina ; Kučerová, Ilona (advisor) ; Hankovcová, Eva (referee)
Title: Case study of the physiotherapy treatment of a patient after polytrauma with peripheral palsy of ulnar nerve Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to summarize theoretical knowledge of peripheral palsy, especially the ulnar nerve palsy. Next objective is to elaborate a detailed case study with the use of theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired during the three years of studying the bachelor's programme, in the context of therapeutic sessions with a patient after a polytrauma who was diagnosed with ulnar nerve palsy. Methods: The thesis consists of two main parts. The theoretical part presents an analysis of data obtained from researching available literature and aims to summarize basic information on the subject. The empirical part documents the course of the therapeutic sessions and summarizes the results of the therapy within a consistent and specialized practice. A part of the case study is initial and final kinesiological assessment, a description of the course of all performed sessions and finally an evaluation of the effect of the therapy. Results: An experimental kinesiological assessment was conducted after seven sessions, and the results shown the accomplishment of the majority of the set objectives in a short-term therapy with a patient who was diagnosed with...
Ulnar nerve entrapment syndromes and their therapy
Kuneš, Lukáš ; Giannelli, Karolína (advisor) ; Jačisko, Jakub (referee)
The ulnar nerve is the second most commonly affected peripheral nerve after the median nerve by compression neuropathy. Nerve compression most often occurs in the cubital tunnel. Less often, the nerve is compressed by Struthers' arcade in the arm or in the Guyon's canal in the wrist. The research part of the thesis summarizes the findings of the anatomy, pathophysiology and etiology of ulnar nerve entrapment syndromes. The issue of risk factors is also discussed, including the influence of the work environment and sports activities. Diagnosis consists of a thorough clinical examination and electrodiagnostics in combination with the use of modern imaging methods, especially diagnostic ultrasound and magnetic resonance. Pharmacological, orthotic, and surgical treatment options are briefly described. More space is devoted to physiotherapeutic interventions, which includes the possibilities of kinesiotherapy and physical-therapeutic methods. The practical part presents case reports of three patients with compression of the ulnar nerve in various anatomical strains. Patients were clinically examined before therapy, 3 days after therapy, and during the follow up after 20 days from the end of therapy. All patients were improved subjectively and sensorimotoricaly during the study period. All achieved the...
